Themis’ Website Now Uses Green Hosting
Themis are happy to be able to tell you that our website is now hosted with 100% renewable electricity from sources like the sun, wind and wave power via the energy provider Ecotricity, the first company in the UK to offer true 100% renewable energy.
Web hosting has a major impact on the environment, with data centres using a huge amount of power to ensure they function and the servers are cooled effectively. Based by the sea in Cornwall, we are particularly keen to protect our beautiful, natural surroundings so moving to eco-friendly web hosting was important to us.
The datacentre that hosts our website has achieved a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of at least 1.2 which is viewed as Very Efficient. Most non-energy efficient datacentres have a rating of 2.5 or more.
As well as being efficient in its power usage, our datacentre’s owners plant trees regularly as part of a wider commitment to protect against climate change.
As well as being eco-friendly itself, our hosting is managed by a local provider, Cornwall IT, who work from Tremough Innovation Centre in Penryn, Cornwall which has been built to the BREEAM Excellence Standard, one of the highest levels of environmental accreditations available.
